Over the years, I learned another little handy trick that seems to help when it comes to saving money on parts for my car. You know all of those old "buy here, pay here" car lots? Well, if you run into one that is locally owned, you may get a little deal on any spare parts that they have laying around. Many times, these spare parts are just lying around and cannot be used for anything in the lot. The owners of these little side car dealerships love to make a fast buck and are often more than willing to part with a few vehicle parts to make some fast cash.

The second step is to search out any industrial area near your place of residence. These areas usually have forklifts and other machinery that they want to get rid of. You can salvage these vehicles for motors and any other part your vehicle will need.

If the junk vehicle in your yard is obviously not a classic car but is in decent cosmetic condition, the first thing you should do is see if you can get the car started. In most cases the engine has seized up which could mean it will cost you a lot of money to get it fixed. Contact a mechanic or somebody who knows a lot about car junk yard to see if they can diagnose what is wrong with the vehicle. In most cases they will tell you it needs a new engine and perhaps a new transmission. The cost of buying these parts and installing them will probably far exceed the value of the vehicle. In fact, you might even be able to buy the same vehicle in working condition for far less than it would take you to fix the junk car in your yard. Not to mention that would be far less headache.

Shop Online. Wholesale providers of automobile replacement parts and accessories are springing up all over the internet. Some stores are good, some are not. What to look for: available customer service agents; a toll free number where you can call someone to talk with directly; a store that never closes and has a secured payment site; and clearly understood shipment, payment, and return policies. Generally, an online retailer should be a great option as low overhead and purchasing directly from the manufacturer is what sets these wholesalers apart from the rest. Still, do your homework and make sure that the site is what it says it is.



I then find out that he did not have a drivers license and not only that I later found out that he had a mental problem that caused him to turn the car in the opposite direction that he wanted to go when he got excited. He had even rolled a pickup truck on a curve one time due his problem. I am sure that there is a name for this but I do not know what it is. I have never forgot this and I am very cautious about being on the side of the road. I think that this is why so many workers and police get hit when working along side the road.

You can advertise on Craigslist or some other website, giving details about your car. Include photos and be honest about the car's condition. Put down an asking prices such as $500 or OBO for "or best offer" and wait for people to contact you. One man's junk is another man's treasure -- you could be holding a classic that would be worth a mint once it has been restored.

The next question on your mind would be how do I sell my car? Once you have located a few reputable car salvage companies, you can provide them a detail or let them inspect the car. Based on their evaluation, they will provide you bids for what they want to pay for the car. You can generate anything between $200 - $400 depending on the condition of the car and some extra specialty parts you may have placed in it.

If you're one of those handy people who can do your own tune-ups, change your own oil and handle minor repairs, congratulations. You have the skills to save thousands of dollars over the life of your car. But you also know that you can spend hundreds on crazy rays jessup with a single trip to the auto supply house. And if you need an item that's classified as a dealer-only part, you could easily be looking at thousands of dollars for the replacement.

There are many outsourcing sites online that are search engines to find just about any part you need. No more going to the junkyard to find that old part that you need to keep your cars running. You just need to visit your computer and find a site and find the part.

Some changes may be more subtle. You are probably not a trained insurance professional, or you would not be reading this. That is why it is a good idea to review your polcy, possibly with the aid of a good agent.
